Lectures

Week 7
Mr. Hafiz taught us how to use intertwine from the object menu to make one object to be able to overlap one part of a text while not overlapping the other part to give the outcome some depth. Depth can be added using light and shadow that can be applied using gradient onto some parts and giving the word a 3D look via effect - 3D & material. There was also a tutorial on how to use clipping mask.

Week 8
Mr. Hafiz taught us how to use envelop distort to manipulate the shape of the text to make it look somewhat more illustrated.

TASK 3 - ILLUSTRATED TYPOGRAPHY
"A COLLABORATION WITH DPI - POSTERS"

I was a bit confused on how to start at the beginning but after a few thoughts, I decided that I will focus on two main words that I want to accentuate on the quote itself.

I chose the quote "Try to be a rainbow in someone else's cloud" in which I chose the word 'Rainbow' and 'Cloud' to be accentuated.

I first found some references before going to the sketch. I had a few revision but the one that I went with in the end was the one below.

I had actually digitalized the one before revision which resulted in the illustrated typography below.

Not only was it not the correct font (only sans-serif), the lecturer said I did it to be too literal so I went ahead and created the revised version and digitized it.

I decided to make my own cloud font instead of using an already made cloud font like the one above. I experimented a few times before I decided on one that was satisfactory for me.

After I felt like the cloud is okay, I went ahead to do the word 'Rainbow'.

After that, I went ahead and revised the rainbow as I felt that it was too unreadable. At first I only change the image that I used to but after some feedbacks, I decided to changed them all.

This time, I chose a font that was far more bolder (Acumin variable concept condensed black) and distorted it before clipping it to a rainbow that is a little more lighter in color compared to the previous one.

After that, I started experimenting with effects to give it something that can make it more complex and not too simple. I did a few things but in the end decided to add a shadow behind the word.

After I was satisfied with the word 'Rainbow', I went back to editing the cloud. I decided to use 3D and Materials - Inflate to give it a more soft balloon/rounded like look.

After the word 'Cloud' is complete I went ahead with the details. I made a fog brush and changed the line into said brush and then added an extra colorful reflection on top.

After feedback from my friends and the lecturer, I decided to abandon the fog and went ahead and make a cloud brush instead. It took a few tries but I manage to make it how I wanted it to be.

I decided to add 2 lines, 1 that's intertwined with the word and another on the back with different opacity (the one on the front is more visible) to give it perspective.

I edited it a few times and after another feedback I finally got one that I like. I also decided during inserting the quote into the posters picture to make the other part of the quote white to make it pop and more visible using a MV Boli Regular font.

I added a couple clouds in the front to give it a 3 level perspective (back-middle-front).

Reflections

I had a lot of fun doing this project. Although it was lagging a little because of the 3D but other than that I had quite a fun time doing this project. I must admit that I was so confused at the beginning but with a little help I was starting to understand more to the point that I manage to finish this project on time and for that I am grateful for all the guidance that my lecturer has given me especially the feedbacks that helped me out a lot.
