Lecture 3 - Understanding Web Structure

Website structure is the foundation of a user-friendly and accessible website. A well-structured website helps users find information easily and keeps them engaged.

Websites are typically divided into three key elements :
  1. Header : It usually contains the website's logo, navigation menu, and contact information.
  2. Body : It contains text, images, videos, and other multimedia elements.
  3. Footer : It typically includes copyright information, links to important pages, and contact details.

Lecture 4 - Web Standards

The central organization who is responsible for creating and maintaining web standards is the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

The HTML code is made up of characters that live inside angled brackets <>, these are called HTML elements, for example :

"<element>Information</element>"

Types of elements :
  • <h1> = heading 1
  • <h2> = heading 2 ; etc
  • <p> = paragraph
  • <b> = bold
  • <i> = italic
  • <ol> = ordered list (1,2,3;etc)
  • <ul> = unordered list (bullet points)
  • <a> = links
  • <img> = images

Reflection

It didn't take as long as I thought it would, maybe because how obviously bad of a website it is. I had a little problem with the wireframes but managed to get some feedback before submission, which I am glad for, a little confused on what else I should put on the blog though but other than that this task is not really a heavy one if you pick the right website (a bad one). Although since this website design was quite bad, it will hopefully and probably make my redesign looks better since it will be quite a significant improvement (hopefully).
