TABLE OF CONTENTS
Lectures
Week 1 - Introduction to Mobile Application Design
In week 1, we learned regarding the fundamentals of designing
engaging and user-friendly mobile applications. An effective mobile
application design is crucial in today's digital landscape as a well
designed apps provide a seamless user experience, boosting
engagement, retention, and overall customer satisfaction.
The user-centered design approach focuses on deeply understanding
the target users and their needs. It involves a iterative process
of research, ideation, prototyping, and testing to ensure the
final product delivers a seamless and intuitive experience.
Week 2 - The Art of User-Centred Design
In week 2, learned about user-centered design (UCD), an iterative cycle where designers focus on understanding user
needs and incorporating that understanding into every stage of
design, from the very beginning (conception) to the final
product. UCD process starts at the discover stage going to the
define stage, design stage, validate stage and ending at the develop
stage.
User experience design focuses on the users' feelings and
experiences rather than our own perceptions.
Week 3 - Usability: Designing Products for User Satisfaction
Week 3 - Usability: Designing Products for User Satisfaction
In week 3, we learned about usability, the effectiveness, efficiency,
and success of a user in utilizing a product or design within a specific
context. Common usability pitfalls :
- Complex interfaces
- Confusing navigation
- Lack of clear calls to action (CTAs)
- Inadequate error handling
Key principles of usability :
- Consistency
- Simplicity
- Visibility
- Feedback
- Error prevention

In week 1, I had proposed a Liho Tea App 2.0. with improvement in it's
visual designs, a very general idea that the lecturer had been
alright with however he prompted me to think on why I use this
app in which I had informed him that I buy drinks from this app
due to the amount of deals it offered. From that answer he gave
me an app suggestion, which is to make an app that inform you
when any deals is currently happening. I was intrigued with the
idea but had asked to do some research first before proceeding
forward.
In week 2, I had proposed
Shopback as an option compared to making an app from scratch. I
had proposed two main features addition which was price
comparison and point system based on the users' reviews that I
had read. The lecturer is alright with the price comparison but
expressed concerns on the complexity of the app if points system
were to be implemented.
In week 3, I had failed to show
major progress and can only ask for details on the tasks, the
lecturer showed me mercy and asked me to complete it by next
week which I am very grateful for.
In week 4, I had realized that
I should've elaborated my slides as the submission didn't
require a video presentation. So when I consulted, I mentioned
my lack of elaboration and proceed to briefly explain my ideas
which he showed no sign of disapproval of and asked me to
proceed to finish the slides as well as conclude my proposal in
a similar way that I explained my proposal to him.

Feedbacks
Week 1 :
Why did you use Liho Tea app ? how about you make an
app from your motivation of using the app itself
?
Week 2 :
I am alright with both features however if you add
point system on top of price comparison and all the
other features, it will be very overwhelming for
users. It might be better to focus on the addition of
price comparison instead.
Week 3 :
Please do finish it as soon as possible as the
submission is next week.
Week 4 :
Everything good, just need to elaborate more and
conclude your presentation the same way you explain
your proposal to me.
Reflections
I was
very lost at the beginning, I came late
during the first week and couldn't fully
comprehend what we had to do. I had to ask
from my friends and tried to come up with
an idea on the spot to get a consultation
for the attendance. I knew from the start
that my initial idea was very general but
I still came forward to get a
consultation, the feedback I got was
really helpful in guiding me to the
current application improvement that I'm
doing right now in the
proposal.
I was
unfortunately very busy with other
activities and didn't manage to make any
big progress on week 2 and week 3, making
me very behind compared to my peers. I
struggled quite a lot on finding other app
references and trying to find the
strength, weakness and what I can bring
from the other app to my app. In truth, I
had to prompt ChatGPT quite a lot to try
and find suitable app that I can use as
references on my app. Due to my lack of
familiarity with the app, I had to rely on
other users' reviews and experiences in
order to find gaps that I can fill in by
bringing in some new features.
