Week 4 - Card Sorting Method
In week 4, we learned regarding card sorting, a powerful
method to understand how users group and categorize
information. There are 4 types of card sorting method :
- Open (participants create their own category)
- Closed (predefined category)
- Hybrid (combination of open and closed)
- Remote (sort categories using online tools)
In class we were given a set of features for an app and was
asked to categorize them, this is a closed card sorting
method, meaning we were to create our own categories.
Week 5 - Introduction To User Experience Research
In week 5, we learned regarding UX Research, the process of understanding user behaviors, needs, and
attitudes through various observation and feedback collection
methods. It is important to do as it minimizes uncertainty by
clarifying what users want and need. There are two methods to
collect the data, qualitative (Ex. Interviews) and
quantitative (Ex. Surveys).
In class, we were asked to create the interview and survey
questions which will be use for our data collection later on.
It has to be as generic as possible without showing any biases
that may lead the customer to answer specifically, for example
"how bad is this app ?".
Week 6 - Interview and Questionnaires
In week 6, we learned more
regarding interview and surveys. Surveys questions are
usually more invasive due to it's anonymous nature while
interview questions are usually not as invasive as it is
conducted live. The data gained from both interview and
surveys are then sorted with the affinity mapping method
(organizing notes into clusters) in order to find patterns,
analyzing those patterns might help find the root cause of
the problem which is what we want in order to be able to
tackle it.
In class, we were asked to continue on making the interview
and survey questions. Consultation for the questions are
open in which I used the time to consult the lecturer
regarding my set of questions for both the interview and
surveys.
Week 7 - UI/UX Design Document (User Persona)
In week 7, we learned regarding
user persona, a fictional character that is used to
represent a whole group. It is useful in order to understand the user needs and requirements as well as aiding
in strategizing and guiding intelligent design decisions.
Qualities of an effective user persona :
- Use of real data
- Focus on the present
- Context-specific
- Avoid biases
What to include in a user persona :
- Demografic information
- Personality traits
- Goals and objectives
- Behavioral information
- Needs and pain points
- Scenario and use cases
- User quotes
In class, we were asked to create a user persona of a
restaurant owner, grab driver and customer. Since this task
is a group task, our table was divided into 2 groups. Our
group decided to do it in
Canva using the whiteboard feature.
Week 8 - UI/UX Design Document (Site Map & User Flow
Diagram)
In week 8, we learned how to do
site map, a visual representation of site that shows how each page
In class, we were tasked to continue from last week user persona and create a user flow chart from one of the personas.
relate to the web/app’s hierarchy. We also learned
regarding user flow, a user’s path to finish a specific purpose
that includes each of the user's step, from the
starting point to the end point.
In class, we were tasked to continue from last week user persona and create a user flow chart from one of the personas.

After finishing the proposal, we were to go ahead and
conduct 5 interview and 10-20 survey responses,
analyze them and create 3 user persona to further
analyze.
Below are my interview and survey questions that were
created after consulting the lecturer
After the questions were created, I went ahead and
find some people to interview, with age ranging from
18 to someone in their 40s. As for the survey, sadly
we only received less than 15 responses that is
speculated was impacted due to the open ended nature
of the survey which made respondents hesitant to
answer.
From those data collection, I analyzed them and
compiled them into 3 user persona with 3 user journey
map. Every point in each journey map holds
opportunities, this was asked of us from our lecturer
and I must admit that I struggled quite a bit with
finding 3 opportunities for each point. I managed to
do it somehow but it was still not as easy as I
thought.
Either way, those opportunities were then compiled
into stick notes and then compiled into groups based
on the feature category. We were then to choose which
features we want to keep and which one to discard.
After which we were to create a site map which is
basically a map that shows the features in each page
that your app have, I had to remake this multiple
times as the references do be changing what site map
meant to me multiple times, so I had no actual clue if
what I said was true or not back then. The last thing
to make was a user flow chart which is well a chart
showing how the user uses the app from start to finish
to complete a certain task.
Below is the PPT with all the compiled data :

Week 5 :

Week 6 :
Since most of them don't really need options, you
can just make it open ended or the survey questions can be used for interview
instead. As for the survey questions, you can make
it more invasive, asking about the amount of money
spent or something similar like that, that is
connected to your topic, this is possible as surveys
are anonymous so respondents are more willing to
answer questions like that in surveys rather than
interviews.

Reflections
Honestly it was pretty awkward to
interview people and I had mostly stick
to asking the questions directly without
asking follow-up questions. I did wish I
did but the interview that I did for now
is satisfactory for now. I was
struggling with the survey a bit since
no one is filling it up, it may have
been due to the open-ended nature of the
survey but I managed to get the minimum.
Analyzing the survey and interview took
a lot out of me, I tried my very best to
analyze and express what I thought into
texts. I especially struggled with the
user persona and the user journey map
since it's a bit confusing and
overwhelming for me to do. After that
it's pretty simple, I just need to make
a lot of sticky notes and organize it
based on certain features types. The
user flow chart is a bit confusing to
make but it's alright. The site map had
no reasons to be so complicated though,
I had to redo it so many times because I
don't feel like the features belong or
it's too heavy on certain pages while
the rest is pretty bland, I did manage
to make it as balance as possible
without making it look out of place
though. Overall, I think we can conclude
that I struggled a bit in this task and
I think this is the most I've ever typed
in a PPT so I guess good for me ? Anyway
the result is satisfactory enough for me
and I hope that I did everything
correctly.
