Project 2A - Lalin
We were tasked to color correct and color grade the Lalin film we arranged earlier in the Exercise Blog.
I cut the film short into 35 seconds just as the lecturer asked.
I first started by color correcting the film. The first try, I tried to lower the contrast it until the bright white light is not as bright anymore. The white in figure 1 is actually ideal but due to the low contrast, the saturation is also low hence looks incredibly desaturated which is not a really good look.

The second try, I tried to focus more on the color, trying to make it look warmer with it's warm hues. As seen in figure 2, I actually really like the colors but this one has the exact opposite problem of being too contrasting creating a highly saturated video that hurts people eyes and not really too pleasing to watch for a long period of time.

In the end, I settled on something on the middle by lowering the contrast to not make the bright white light too bright but still making sure the colors are visible, but this time instead of warm hues, I went with cool hues which I can achieve by slightly making it desaturated and adding a blue tint which in the end, took part in the color grading that I did where I used a slight cool blue color grading for all the scenes, just enough that it looks gloomy to symbolize the sadness of the film (A sad mood/vibe).

I also paired it with a sad piano in the background just to add some sound.
Project 2B - Trailer
We were given a task to shoot our own film based from some scenes from "Everything Everywhere All At Once". We were separated into two different teams and then distributed the roles, I got to play as Evelyn, the main character of this movie.
We shoot the scenes in one of the classroom available at Taylor's University Block C Level 9, here are some pictures taken during the shooting.

After the scenes is shot, we continued on to the editing part, where we are tasked to edit the scenes into a trailer ranging from 30 - 45 seconds.
I took the dramatic trailer route for the trailer and just inserted random words that sounds dramatic along with a dramatic Hollywood background music that I found for free online.
After that I color graded the scenes into multiple type using the "Creative" Menu as I find it to be easier to adjust and gave the videos a more natural color,
1. Teal and Orange
The videos like figure 7 already had the right hues and just need to be more saturated hence the raised saturation. I used mostly the same settings for the other scened just with the help of tints that was set to be teal (shadow tint) and orange (highlight tint) to further boost the colors as the teal and orange hues are not as visible (more like yellow and blue), like in figure 8 and 9.

2. Warm Brown
To give the scene the right colors, I once again used tints and dragged it to red (shadow tint) and orange (highlight tint) along with raised saturation. I did the same thing to the other scenes with the same color grading.
3. Cool Green
Once again, to give it the desire hue that I wanted, I set the tints into green (shadow tint) and orange as the highlight just to give the skin some colors. this time I lowered the saturation slightly just to balance out the green.
4. Cool Blue
For this one, it just the same repetition as the other by using tint, but this time only tint. the shadow tint was set into a dark blue while the highlight tint was set at cyan.

5. Desaturated
This one is quite simple as I simply need to lower the saturation slightly to achieve the desaturated look that I wanted.

6. High Contrast Black and White
To make it black and white I set the saturation into 0, while setting the contrast in the color correction to the max to create the high contrast black and white color grade.

After everything is done, I raised the voice lines volume to be bigger than the music to make it like you're watching it from a movie theater with the loud music yet voice lines that you can hear clearly. Although I did realized a bit late that the sound might be a little too loud, however I think it's still fine. I didn't really notice it during submission as I was wearing earphones with volume around 75-80%.
PROJECT 2 - SUBMISSION
Reflections
I had no clear expectations for this project to be completely honest but I quite enjoy doing color correction and grading, it was quite a hassle though since I am someone that likes to focus on little details and fix imperfection on the spot. I really need to fix that habit since it makes color correction taking quite a lot of my time. Project 2A is an okay project, I didn't really know what else to say since I didn't really expect this one and was the process also was a bit confusing to do at the beginning hence the trial and errors in color correction. Color grading was a lot simpler though. Project 2B was fun to shoot, I was one of the main actor and honestly I quite enjoy it. I don't really know how to make a trailer though so I just make it as dramatic as possible and left it at a cliffhanger so people would want to watch the actual thing as their curiousness will get the better of them. Overall, a fun project to do (especially the shooting part).
